Boulogne Eastern Cemetery

9th Essex arrived in France in May, 1915 as part of 35 Brigade, 12th Division and after an initial period of trench instruction 12th Division took over part of the front line south of Ploegsteert Wood where the Western Front crossed the French-Belgian border. 9th Essex first went into the line on 10th July, 1915 and for the next two months they remained in this sector with periods in the front line trenches, and others in reserve trenches or at rest, further back. Private Griffiths died of wounds on 3rd August, 1915 but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded.
